The international workshop on Variational Multiscale Methods and Stabilized Finite Elements (VMS) aims to bring together researchers from these two fields to exchange their most recent ideas and research findings. These computational methods, originally developed in the context of the numerical simulation of fluid flows, have demonstrated an enormous potential for a wide variety of problems.
As already practiced in the preceeding meetings, the topics are not restricted to those from the traditional title of the workshop.

The themes of this workshop include:
  • Numerical Simulation of Fluid Problems with transport domain.
  • Numerical Analysis and Applications of Variational Multiscale Methods (VMS).
  • Applications, Numerical Analysis and Efficient Resolution Techniques of Modern Methods of Stabilization of Finite Elements.
  • Stable discretization and resolution techniques of evolution problems.
  • Impact of Stabilized Methods in Optimal Control problems.
Travel grants for students: There will be the opportunity to cover accomodation expenses (3 nights) of a limited group of Master and PhD students (on a first-come first-served basis). Further information will follow.

The workshop will take place at the Weierstrass Institute (WIAS), which is located in a historic building in the center of Berlin.

The talks will be held in the lecture room ESH (ground floor). The room is equipped with a blackboard, a projector and a computer. Internet access will be available via eduroam.

  • Address: Mohrenstraße 39, 10117 Berlin.
  • You can find the location of WIAS highlighted here (Openstreetmap).
  • The nearest subway stations to WIAS are U-Bhf Hausvogteiplatz (line U2) and U-Bhf Stadtmitte (lines U2, U6). For details on public transportation in Berlin see BVG (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe)
