Excellence and sustainability in research are safeguarded through professional and methodological standards, through procedures for ethical reflection, and through transparency and integrity in leadership and collegial cooperation. In doing so, the Weierstrass Institute implements the “Guiding Principles of our Actions in the Leibniz Association” and the associated standards and procedures to ensure good scientific practice.
The strategic development and realization of these standards in daily actions at the Weierstrass Institute is represented by the WIAS Ombudsperson. The ombudsperson, who is elected by the WIAS scientists in a secret election, is also the person in charge in case of disagreements, suspicions and disputes, and examines allegations of scientific misconduct on the basis of the institution's internal guidelines. If the WIAS ombudsperson decides that a further investigation of the allegations is necessary, the case is forwarded to the central ombudsperson of the Leibniz Association.
