Matthias Liero scoops Junior ISIMM Prize 2018
Dr. Matthias Liero, an early career researcher at WIAS, has been awarded the Junior Prize of the "International Society for the
Interaction of Mechanics and Mathematics" (ISIMM). The prize is awarded every two years to a young scientist who has made a
significant contribution to linking Mathematics and Mathematical Physics. Matthias Liero’s research focuses on the mathematical
analysis of partial differential equations that describe, for instance, electrothermal interplay in organic light-emitting diodes
(OLEDs). A software program developed by Liero and his colleagues from WIAS can be used to simulate current and heat flow in
thin-film OLEDs, giving scientists a better understanding of experimentally observed luminance inhomogeneities. Matthias Liero
is the third WIAS researcher to win the Junior ISIMM Prize.
