The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises eight non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz Association.
WIAS and Technical University of Berlin invite applications for the position of a
in the Research Group
” Stochastic Algorithms and Nonparametric Statistics”
(Head: Prof. Dr. Vladimir Spokoiny) starting as soon as possible after January 1, 2019 in the project “On robustness of deep neural networks” in the frame of the Cluster of Excellence MATH+. The aim of the project is to apply rough path techniques in the context of deep neural networks. In particular, rough path estimates are used to analyse the stability of residual neural networks, understood as a proper rough differential equation in the sense of branched rough paths. In addition, we will use signature based deep neural network techniques in contexts of extracting dynamical laws from data.
We are seeking a mathematician (master or diploma) working in the intersection of rough path analysis and machine learning. We expect
- working experience in Python; willingness to work in modern deep neural network frameworks such as TensorFlow;
- PhD in the field of stochastic analysis and/or rough paths/regularity structures
- willingness to cooperate with other projects within Math+ on machine learning.
The position is limited until December 31, 2020. The work schedule and the salary are according to the German TVoeD scale. It is a full-time position, 50% each at WIAS and TU Berlin.
The Weierstrass Institute is an equal opportunity employer. We explicitly encourage female researchers to apply for the offered position. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to disabled candidates.
Please upload complete application documents curriculum vitae, photocopies of certificates and a list of publications, including a cover letter as soon as possible and no later than February 15th, 2019 via our online job-application facility (https://www.wias-berlin.de/jobs/index.jsp?lang=1) using the button “Apply online”.
We are looking forward to your application!
