How to get Berlin...

BY PLANE

There are three airports in Berlin:
Tegel (TXL), Schonefeld (SXF) and Tempelhof (THF).

There are some low cost companies that fly to Berlin Schonefeld (SXF) airport, as Easyjet and Ryan Air. Check their web sites for convenient tickets.

To get downtown Berlin from the airports check the links:

BY TRAIN

The Deutsche Bahn, Germany´s national railway, offers a comprehensive service to German and European destinations. They provide online timetable information for travel between German or European destinations. Tickets are expensive if you pay full fare, but the DB do have a range of DB-specials which make train travel more economical. Travellers can use Berlin´s public transport system free of charge if they have a valid DB train ticket.
For historical reasons, Berlin doesn´t have a central station from which trains to all destinations depart. Bahnhof Zoo and Ostbahnhof are the main stations for trains to western Germany, and Western Europe including Frankfurt(Main), Munich, Hamburg & Amsterdam. Lichtenberg, far in the east of the city, is the main station for trains to regional centres in north eastern Germany and western Poland.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN BERLIN
The BVG journey planer "fahrinfo" offers online schedule information (routing) for public transport in Berlin. Check the BVG web page for a map of all "S-Bahn" (city train) and "U-Bahn" (subway) lines.

Metro tickets:
Tickets can be purchased from vendor machines located in every metro station. For participants expecting to use public transport on more than ten occasions in total, we would recommend purchasing a weekly ticket ("7-Tage-Karte"); if not, then we recommend buying single tickets ("Einzelfahrscheine") unless at least three trips are made on any one day, in which case a daily travelcard ("Tageskarte") is the cheaper option for that day. The standard fare for Berlin is zone Berlin AB. All tickets have to be stamped before first use!

Street Maps:
Street maps can be viewed by address at the Stadtplandienst.

LOCATION OF THE WORKSHOP
The Meeting will take place at Room Weierstrass Horsaal 406 at the Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics, located in the very center of Berlin near the famous Gendarmenmarkt (map). The WIAS building is located approximately 80m from the subway station Hausvogteiplatz.

Some further information on how to get the Lecture Room will be provided soon.
