This group existed from 2012 to 2015. It was led by Wolfgang Dreyer.

The group was established in the framework of the competition procedure of the Leibniz Association. Its research topics were the mathematical modeling, analysis, numerical analysis, and simulation of different components of lithium-ion batteries, particularly:
  1. Many-particle electrodes
  2. Graphite electrodes
  3. Electrolytes
  4. Electrolyte-electrode interfaces
The models describe electrochemical processes and transport phenomena by partial differential equations in the volume and by jump conditions at the interfaces.
