formal derivation of macroscopic limit equations from microscopic systems (discrete models and PDEs)
small amplitude modulation equations like complex Ginzburg-Landau equation or the nonlinear Schrödinger equation
Whitham's modulation equation for large amplitude traveling waves
hyperbolicity and Lax conditions
stability properties in micro and macroscale
macroscopic energies and stress-strain relations in large-particle limits
energy transport and pulse propagation in dispersive media

If you would like to attend the workshop please e-mail to sill@wias-berlin.de. Participants are invited to contribute their recent results in the topics addressed in the workshop. A limited number of contributions will be selected for oral or poster presentation.

There will be no registration fee. For members (applicants plus one participant) of the DFG priority program 1095 and invited speakers, travel expenses and accommodation will be supported according to the DFG guidelines for the priority program. All other participants, have to cover their expenses themselves. In exceptional cases it might be possible to partially cover travel expenses and accommodation (please indicate this in your registration e-mail).
