Summer term 2021 Lecture Linear Partial Differential Equations

This course provides a thorough introduction to linear partial differential equations.
Outline of the contents:
- Scalar first order equation
- Elementary PDEs: heat equation, wave equation, Laplace equation
- Solutions of linear problems via orthogonal series (separation)
- Elliptic problems via Lax–Milgram theory, maximum principles
- Existence and smoothing properties of parabolic equations
- Hyperbolic equations in several space dimensions

All lectures, exercise and office hours can be attained via a Zoom-Link which you can find on the (Moodle) homepage. Please be aware that (especially during office hours) there might be either a waiting room or ongoing Break-out-session. In this case we kindly ask you to be patient. Recordings of the lectures or exercises are not allowed.
Homeworks
Exercise sheets will be uploaded on Thursday afternoon and consist of four exercises. Two of them will be marked and shall be solved and uploaded by each student via Moodle before Thursday, 13h. The remaining two exercises are to be prepared for discussion. In order to proceed to the exam you have to pass 1/3 of the written exercises and present two oral exercises during the semester. Further details will be given in the first exercise on Thursday 15/04/2021.
