About IOM
The Leibniz Institute of Surface Engineering (IOM) is well known for its competence and excellence in engineering surfaces and thin films by ion beam, electron, laser and plasma techniques. The institute performs application-oriented basic research by aiming for scientific knowledge gain related to the physical and chemical mechanisms in the preparation, synthesis and modification of insulating, metallic, semiconducting and polymeric surfaces and thin films. One of the main objectives of the institute to transfer its scientific understanding to product- and method-oriented applications useful to industrial partners who wish to use engineered materials and surfaces in economically relevant and forward-looking technology fields. The institute is a member of the Leibniz Association and cooperates with the University of Leipzig, the Technical University Dresden, the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Science as well as with the Leipzig University for Applied Sciences. The institute also collaborates at a high scientific and technological level with a large number of other universities, research centers as well as with companies in Germany and abroad.
About TROPOS
TROPOS is an internationally leading institution aiming at application oriented basic research on aerosols and clouds and their interactions. Tropospheric aerosols and clouds play a central role in the coupled system men-environment-climate. TROPOS monitors, understands and models the physical and chemical processes of tropospheric aerosols and clouds from the molecular and micro-scale to long-range transports into polluted regions of various strengths. A central focus lies on the investigation of the human influences on the highly complex tropospheric multiphase system. The outstanding strength of the institute is the joint investigation of tropospheric processes in laboratories, filed and modeling. TROPOS is contact for politics, society and science in the impact-fields health and climate.
