The Weierstraß Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises seven non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz Association.

WIAS is home to the office of the MaRDI network (Mathematical Research Data Initiative https://www.mardi4nfdi.de), which will be funded within the framework of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI - https://www.nfdi.de) of the BMBF and the GWK from 2021.

Coordinator/ Project manager (f/m/d)

Responsibilities include overall coordination of the MaRDI consortium with a focus on research data management.

Work responsibilities include:

  • Coordination and support of the operational management of the MaRDI consortium in coordination with the spokesperson.
  • Networking function within the MaRDI consortium: central interface communication and close cooperation with all MaRDI partners, the participating scientists, the administrations of the institutions as well as with partner institutions of other NFDI consortia and other relevant partners from the academic, economic and political environment
  • Supporting the establishment of an agile team consisting of the distributed and spatially separated MaRDI working groups (infrastructures for collaborative work and team communication; team building activities)
  • Support of the project management, e.g. by reporting and monitoring of the overall project
  • External representation of the MaRDI consortium in coordination with the spokesperson
  • Coordination and support of committee work as well as preparation of scientific reports and support in the creation of funding applications
  • Conception, planning and organization of events and networking activities of the consortium including project meetings, workshops and other formats
  • Budget planning of the consortium in coordination with the responsible persons (with the support of the MaRDI finance staff member)

The requirements for employment are a university degree, preferably in an informatics/scientific/technical field, as well as sound knowledge of FAIR principles, research data management, and aspects of science culture in the natural and technical sciences.

Experience with collaborations in the field of science, a high interest in Open Science, an affinity for research data and interdisciplinary work at the interface between science and technical infrastructure are expected.

Furthermore, experience in the management of projects and in the work and organization of distributed and spatially-separated working groups is of high importance. Knowledge in the use of tools for collaborative work and software development (e.g. github, gitlab), for project management and for team communication in distributed working groups is desirable.

We are looking for an open, communicative, flexible and resilient personality with a very good command of English (knowledge of German can be acquired; WIAS offers German classes for all employees free of charge). The appointment is for 5 years and 1 month. The regular work schedule is 39 hours per week and the salary is according to the German TVöD Bund scale.
