Numerical Mathematics and Scientific Computing

(Head: Prof. Dr. Volker John) starting June 1, 2019 in the sub-project “Continuum based   Modeling” of the interdisciplinary network project “Pathways to rechargeable Mg/Ca-Air batteries” (LuCaMag) funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research. Topic of the project is the development of models and simulation tools for the model based interpretation of experiments investigating charge and discharge processes in metal-air batteries which are performed by partners in the network. A particular focus is on the parametrization of thermodynamically well founded electrolyte models with data from quantum chemical computations performed by network partners.

We are looking for a postdoctoral candidate with relevant mathematical or scientific education for the development and implementation of simulation models for electrochemical systems. It requires a completed academic degree in mathematics or another scientific field. Relevant knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas are expected:

  • Knowledge in the field of non-equilibrium thermodynamics and electrodynamics
  • Modeling and simulation of complex, especially electrochemical, systems using partial differential equations
  • Development of and use of numerical methods for partial differential equations
  • Software development (Python, C ++, Julia).

Willingness to cooperate with interdisciplinary network partners is expected.

Please direct your queries to Dr. Jürgen Fuhrmann (Juergen.Fuhrmann@wias-berlin.de) or Dr. Manuel Landstorfer (Manuel.Landstorfer@wias-berlin.de). Work schedule and the salary are according to the German TVöD and the position is limited until 31.05.2021.

The Weierstrass Institute is an equal opportunity employer. We explicitly encourage female researchers to apply for the offered position. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to disabled candidates.

Please upload complete application documents curriculum vitae, photocopies of certificates and a list of publications, including a cover letter as soon as possible and no later than May 26th, 2019 via our online job-application facility (https://www.wias-berlin.de/jobs/index.jsp?lang=1) using the button “Apply online”.

We are looking forward to your application!
