Research Assistant Position (f/m/d)

in the Research Group

“Nonsmooth Variational Problems and Operator Equations”

(Head: Prof. Michael Hintermüller) starting on January 1, 2019.

We are seeking a person who will use adaptive finite element methods for the efficient solution of restricted optimal control problems with partial differential equations and variation inequalities and who could bring new directions of work into the research group.  The person should also be able to take initiative in applying for third party funding.  The WIAS would support the acquisition of teaching and supervision experience in preparation for a university teaching career.

Applicants are expected to hold a university master’s degree and a PhD (or have equivalent experience) in mathematics or a closely related topic.  Experience in the following areas would strengthen your application: numerical analysis and scientific computation, numerical solution of PDE-constrained optimization

The appointment is limited for one year. The salary is according to the German public service scale (TVoeD).
